Even Washington, DC and New York City hotels can let you down if you expect to connect to your desktop computer back home from their handy keyboards. Yes, they do let you access e-mail. But that's a TV not a computer screen so you can't use your connection software like GoToMyPC. Be warned that you may have to work on your lap--I have yet to find a hotel that has positioned the desk and the TV for comfortable typing.

TIP: When making your reservation ask the hotel if they have a business services facility or, if not, the location of the nearest Internet cafe. The access in your room may be all you need, but it saves time to be prepared. Of course you can always lug your laptop when you travel.
