Meeting with an EU team in Rome has its telecom moments. The UK partner had to hold her cell phone out the window to make calls. The desk clerk at our tiny hotel let us use the hotel PC to check mail (After his boss finished a solitaire game!) A central Rome Internet café was all efficiency with easy connection and an espresso bar across the room.
A side trip to Sicily pushed my patience to the limits at a palatial (literally a former palace) Best Western in Palermo. True they had a “business services” room, which doubled as bookless library. The busy desk clerk was the only even faintly computer savvy person available to connect the PC to the Internet. Help when the connection crashed -- which was constantly -- was down marble stairs and across the vast lobby. True, I got my e-mail, but at a cost of $50 and time I could have spent seeing the sights.
