Being in Australia accentuated the good and bad about working with new technologies. Because technology makes it possible, I stayed in touch with my office. The good news is that I could take two weeks to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef and explore rainforests. That meant sending e-mail from the corner store in Holloways Beach or going online at Global Gossip, an
Internet store in Sydney. (The ISDN line in my hotel room on the Gold Coast didn’t work.). It seemed a good solution but my e-mail attachments didn’t make it through. The drawback was that I never totally relaxed, always worrying about finding a way to check e-mail at the next stop.
TIP: Set up a freemail account and test it before leaving home. Be sure you can send and receive attachments. Mine is webbox.com (which has a nominal fee) but there are many others.
